The Pons are an Austin band that upon first hearing, I was surprised to learn they are a 3 piece. Lush sounds permeate from their recordings in a satisfying way, and it’s obvious within the first ten seconds of the first song on their myspace profile that they are skilled craftsmen, and that you will want to hear more. They will be performing at Rudyard’s this Saturday, February 7 with Austin’s Your Kisses Cause Crashes, and local groups The Western Civilization and Guitars, as well as a special performance on Friday, February 6th at 1816 Calumet. The pons promised to play unique sets on both days!

From what does your band name derive?
We found it while searching something else. We liked the way it looks written out. It’s the part of the brain that regulates what you feel and how you respond.
What are your main influences musically and socially?
Low, Wedding Present, XTC, Galaxy 500, AC Newman. We write better songs in the face of conflict and change. We can’t stand injustice and we’ll take your ass out if we have to.
How does being from Austin effect your perception of other cities you tour?
Austin can put on a pretty jaded face, musically speaking. Other places tend to be more open and appreciative. We have always been treated well on the road by total strangers. That doesn’t always happen in Austin.

Do you feel being in Austin helps or hinders because of the oversaturation of bands there?
Both, where would you like us to go instead? We are more than willing to find that magic music land.
What do you have coming up for SXSW?
Possible showcase and various day parties. If everyone involved had more to tell us at this point, we would certainly share that with you. Check back in the next few weeks. We know most of the people selecting the bands and we hear we’re in good shape with SXSW, but don’t know anything yet.
