I spent a good portion of the day listening to The Small Sounds self titled 2008 album. The album has the sound of the Southwest, like tumbleweeds, and dust, and barbwire. The steel guitar sounds lonesome and Holden Rushing, singer, tugs at my heart strings. The slight twang of the banjo reminds me of wire fences on a post snapping back and forth on a dry windy day. Songs like “Biloxi Grand” and “Leave Virginia Girl” pay homage to the South. I am looking forward to seeing The Small Sounds at the Westheimer Block Party and Merge Music Fest.
I also stumbled across this great document that is an ongoing list of all bands on Twitter. The Snake Charmers were the only Houston band I recognized on the list. They will be playing at CC on Feb 12 at 5:30 for the Twestival. If you missed the Caroline Collective Band Camp series on Online Presence this weekend, you might have heard about this and other equally interesting promotional tools for the web literate musician. Don’t worry if you missed it. This camp will be revisited in a few weeks. Tune into Caroline Collective for details.
