“Sick and brilliant ukulele comedy.” —Time Out New York
“Four Stars! Hilarious.” —Three Weeks, Edinburgh (UK)
“Five stars! An extremely talented singer and songwriter.”
—Fringe Guru, Edinburgh (UK)

NYC ukulele comedian Ben Lerman just back with rave reviews from audiences and critics alike at the 2009 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Armed with just wee ukulele, alarmingly powerful voice and twisted point of view, Ben made his off-Broadway debut in September at NYC’s Ars Nova Theater. Now Ben’s heading to Houston for one night at Notsuoh to play a concert of his hilariously wrong-headed songs.

From a pirate love story to a lullaby for crazy people, Ben’s songs point to the humor in all of our lives and relationships, and in the world around us. Ben takes on taboo topics but with a gentle touch. One glowing Edinburgh reviewer wrote, “This isn’t a show that sets out to offend—it’s actually quite tender at points, and is, in a sense, good clean fun. Well, perhaps there’s just a smattering of bondage, crystal meth and chubby chasers.” Ben’s affable nature and playful wit have made him a beloved recurring guest the world’s most popular entertainment podcasts, “Keith and the Girl” and “Feast of Fun.” Ben is also a regular guest on the Frank DeCaro Show on Sirius Satellite radio and made his TV debut in March 2009 on Here TV’s “Hot Gay Comix.”

On his new EP, Size Matters, available on iTunes and now on CD, Ben and producer Misha Volf evoke a variety of musical styles to heighten the comedy of five hilarious songs. “Ben Lerman Plays Ukulele” is a funny autobiographical rap song over a ukulele-driven beat. “Chubby Chaser” is thumping disco shout-out to the skinny folks who “like ‘em plump.” “Tough Love Lesbo” has a girl group vibe. “Nothing But Amish” is a banjo-laden hip-slapper about Karl Lagerfeld designing a line of Amish clothes. It morphs into a runway-ready techno song. Ben concludes the EP with an early ‘90s-style quiet storm slow jam, “The Idol in Me,” his entry into the American Idol songwriting contest.
